Meet Charbel Tadros, author of 'War of the Heavens: Leviathan'

What was the inspiration behind this book?
Many bits and pieces of inspiration clashed together in order to bring about this novel. However, the spark which set everything on fire was the death of a good friend of mine.
Which character spoke to you the most?
Most of the characters speak to me one way or the other. If I am to choose the one who speaks to me most, I'd say it's Nick since he is my way of reviving my friend through literature.
What is one of your favorite scenes?
I really can't choose a favorite scene. I try in my novels to make every scene meaningful and memorable.
This is the first book in a series. When do you anticipate the next installment?
I already started working on the second installment. Hopefully, it will be ready and released during summer 2014 or early fall since I will be working on my Masters' Thesis at the same time.
May we have a preview of sorts?
Sure. So many things are happening at the same time, Vicky and Nigel go after the god Jizo Bosatsu while Star expands his dominion over the planet. Meanwhile, another kingdom is growing and posing a threat to Star's reach. With an imminent world war so early in the age of a new world, it doesn't bode well for the future.
What do you think is the appeal of stories of magick and demons for both readers and writers?
When magick is involved, nothing is impossible anymore. I believe that this is what appeals most to both reader and writers of fiction. It gives the the ability to create their own worlds, impose their own rules and be whoever they want to be with no strings attached except those they impose upon themselves.
Please tell us about your other published works.
I have two other published works, one is a spiritual novel entitled "The Destined Journey", and it helped many people understand their destinies and their roles in life. My other published work is a collection of poetry entitled "When the Spirit Speaks".
On what other projects are you currently working?
Alongside the second installment of War of the Heavens, I am working on my Masters' Thesis. Moreover, I am also a writer for a magazine called "Red Carpet".
How does writing fulfill you?
The thing is that I believe that I don't write, but writing happens through me. In many cases, I just feel overloaded and I can't really pinpoint the origin of the overload. That's when I turn on my laptop and start writing. When that happens, I usually have to reread everything that I had written and it's as if I'm reading someone else's work. I have no idea where it all came from.
When did you know you wanted to be a writer?
I think it was when I was around ten. I used to watch movies and then rewrite their stories. Sometimes, when the movie was really good, I would even start writing a sequel. At first, it used to be small paragraphs and then it developed into short stories and then into full fledged novels.
You have contributed to the founding of many organizations. Please tell us about them.
I was a charter member of the Beirut Lords Lions Club and the charter president of the Beirut X-Prime Lions Club. The Lions Clubs International is a very well known international humanitarian service organization. I worked on many projects with them and left a few months ago because of internal political conflicts. Currently, I am working on a critical leadership organization called SeedArz (Arz means cedars in arabic) which will work on seeking out and helping leaders in every community. I am also a part of many other organizations but these are the ones worth mentioning for now.
You are currently working on a Masters in Special Education. Why did you feel called to this career?
It's destiny. I never envisioned I would ever work with individuals with special needs. However, I was attracted to a schooling system called "Waldorf" which is based on the works of Rudolf Steiner. The only school that uses it in Lebanon is a school for special needs kids. I wanted to volunteer there but instead got offered a job. Since my major was pedagogy anyway and I needed to do some internships, my universtity and the time accepted that I do my internship there. A few weeks after I had started, I started loving the field and the many areas that could be explored through it. Moreover, the love you feel radiating from some of these individuals is just addictive.
What is something readers may be surprised to learn about you?
I'm expecting a baby girl soon!
Is there anything else you would like to add?
If anyone would like to get in touch with me, they can find all my information on my website: www.charbeltadros.com.
Thank you so much for your time!
Thank you!

Nigel survives a car crash, while his whole family perishes in the accident. With the help of his later-to-become girlfriend Vicky, he overcomes the tragedy and makes his way to college. As they are about to graduate, Vicky convinces him to embark on a strange project involving crystals and magick, with a "k" (meaning real magic). Little did they know that this project would open for them the gates of other dimensions including the world of the gods, the world of the muses and the demons, the world of the dead and many more.
